  • Product Info

Honduras is well suited for coffee production because of its rich soil, favorable climate, and growing conditions, which are similar to those found in neighboring countries. Coffee quality varies widely throughout the country, ranging from lower-cost Central American blending coffees to high-elevation specialty lots that rival the finest coffees produced elsewhere in Central America. This particular variety is more complex than its strictly high-grown counterpart, making it a highly desirable specialty coffee.

In the past, many Honduran coffee growers transported their beans into Guatemala, where they could command higher prices because of Guatemala's well-established reputation for producing quality coffee. However, as government taxes on coffee exports became more influential within the industry, Honduras increased production and made substantial improvements in quality. As a result, demand for Honduran coffee grew, and selling beans across the border became unnecessary.

Today, both coffee producers and the Honduran government are committed to continually improving the quality of Honduran coffee. Laws providing financial incentives to growers have been enacted, and new highways have been constructed to improve access to remote coffee-producing regions.
